Key lesson: No matter how much others mean well, they are not God. The chief cup bearer forgot about Joseph! However, because Joseph served God well and used his God given gift, even in the prison, a day came when the cup-bearer remembered Joseph and told Pharaoh about him!

We should always do our best to use the gifts and talents that we have in a way that honours God.  God can use our gifts to open difficult doors.

    Let’s set the scene:

    Genesis 39:21, Genesis 40

    Key texts:

    Genesis 40:23; Psalms105:19b; Proverbs 18:16

Once again God’s favour – (goodness, approval) on Joseph’s life was seen. The prison warden put him in charge. He interprets the dream of the chief cup-bearer / then the baker - They both leave prison and promptly forget Joseph! Where is hope now?

An excerpt of “The Story of Joseph” written and illustrated by Richard Gunther used by permission.

    Scriptures referenced:

    - Proverbs 18:16 Living Bible (TLB)

16 A gift does wonders; it will bring you before men of importance!

    - Genesis 40:23 Living Bible (TLB)

23 Pharaoh’s wine taster, however, promptly forgot all about Joseph, never giving him a thought.

    - Psalms 105:19 Living Bible (TLB)

19 until God’s time finally came—how God tested his patience!

    HAVE FUN!!!

    Question:

How would you feel if you were let down by someone you were expecting to help you?

Today’s lesson is about Joseph in prison. Even there, was it possible for him to have hope?

God had not forgotten Joseph. Let us read what happened to him in prison, Genesis 39: 21-23 NLT

    Question:

Wouldn’t it be great if your teacher or your mum can trust you with everything they ask you to do? When they give you a little job to do they have no worries, because you do it well, as best as you can.

Sometimes people may not mean to disappoint us but they are not God. Only God can be completely trusted.

Joseph had done His part by using his gift and talents to serve others well.

God can use these gifts to open doors for us and even sometimes bring us to the attention of great and important people (Proverbs 18: 16 NKJV)

    Memory verse:

    1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)

    Homework:

Think what you can do this week to help your parent/carer or what has God given you to bless a friend or sibling.

    HAVE FUN!!!
