3) EXAMINE your leading in the light of God's word.
The Word and the Spirit agree. How can you tell if it is the Spirit of God? If it is in line with the Word, then it is of the Spirit. If it is not in line with the Word, then it is not the Spirit. The Bible is inspired by the Spirit of God; therefore always examine your leading in the light of the Word.
20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Well, you say, 'how about personal prophecy?' The Bible says that "as many as are led by the Spirit they are the sons of God. The Spirit of God bears WITNESS with our spirit that we are the sons of God. The key word here is WITNESS. Any personal prophecy should be carefully examined in the light of:
1) Does the 'prophecy' agree with biblical principles?;
2) Do I have or sense a personal WITNESS with the 'prophecy'?;
3) Does the 'prophecy' create confusion?;
4) Does it violate God's peace within? 5) Does it produce liberty or bondage?
CONFESSION - I shall meditate in Your word, day and night and observe to do what it teaches. I shall keep unwavering focus on Your word for thus I will have wisdom to deal wisely in the affairs of this world. I will allow God's peace to be my Umpire!
