Last week, we started looking at the Person of the Holy Spirit and concluded that He possesses divine attributes of the Godhead - He is eternal, omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient. The characteristic nature of the Holy Spirit unfolds something of the vast sphere of His operation in both the Old and New Testament and in Christ's church. But why do we need Him? Well, before we answer that question lets take a brief look at who employed His enabling power for service?
1) The old Patriarchs needed His anointing - Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samson, David, Elijah and Elisha. The Bible names no less than sixteen Old Testament leaders who received His anointing.
2) Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, needed Him:
2.1) For service - "The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him (Jesus), the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord."
CONFESSION - Holy Spirit divine, I need Your enabling power to live for Christ, to gossip His message and to work the works of Christ in my generation.
